Saints v Texans Preview

The time is finally upon us!!!  The Saints open the 2019 season with a Monday night prime time match up against the Houston Texans and the revenge tour 2019 can finally begin.......

The Saints do not have a good record against the Texans but I think that changes tonight. The Saints are going to come out of the gate firing and the the Texans are the unfortunate team who get to try to stop them.

On offence the Saints have a new toy in tight end Jared Cook, we didn't see much of Cook in the pre season but I think that was more of Sean Payton not putting too much tape out there for opposition co-ordinators to study. Cook is going to be a match up nightmare and will really open the field for Thomas and Kamara to wreak havoc. The Texans will need to generate pass rush as the secondary is not up to scratch, they wont be helped by the recent trade of Jadeveon Clowney so the pressure will be on JJ Watt to really put Drew Brees under pressure, Watt will be going against probably the best right tackle in the league in Ryan Ramczyk so if he can keep Watt quiet Brees could have all day to pick the Texans secondary apart.

The Texans have a good wide receiver core lead by probably the best receiver in the league in DeAndre Hopkins, this will be a real test for Marshon Lattimore but I will back him to keep Hopkins relatively quiet. The Texans had a pourous offensive line last season and recently traded for top tier left tackle Laremy Tunsil, expect to see Cam Jordan take a few snaps at right end to challenge Tunsil. The defensive line of the Saints is weakened with David Onyemata's one game suspension and Sheldon Rankins still not back from his achilles injury in the playoffs, we will need to see a good performance from Marcus Davenport opposite Cam to try to generate the pass rush and not give Watson the time to find his wide receivers.

The Saints run defence was superb last year and I don't see that changing this season, if the Texans want to win this game they will need to try to establish the run.

There 'maybe' some bias here but I really think the Saints put on a show tonight and blow the Texans away. Saints win 42-14!

Enjoy the game Saints fans. Revenge Tour 2019 is underway......
