Week 4 Review - Defence comes up BIG!

Everyone thought the Cowboys were coming into New Orleans and beating a Saints team still without Drew Brees............well, how wrong they were!  The Saints defence showed up in a big way and shut down the previously high flying Cowboys 12-10.  As mentioned in the game preview Dallas had played New York, Washington and Miami, hardly a difficult start but in their first test they struggled and could not get anything going.

Yes, the Saints didnt score a touchdown but when your defence is playing as well as the Saints did last night you don't need to. The defensive line for the Saints was dominant and had big performances from Onyemata, Jordan, Davenport, Brown and the returning Sheldon Rankins, the Cowboys could not get anything going in the run game and their much heralded offensive line was completely by the Saints defensive line, this bodes well for the Saints this season.

The secondary has had its fair share of criticism so far this year but it really showed up last night. Marshon Lattimore has not had a great start to 2019 but he was back to his rookie season best last night completely blanketing Amari Cooper and making him a non factor. Again I have to give huge credit to Vonn Bell, he was again the best player in the secondary and had caused a huge fumble by Zeke Elliott in the 2nd quarter. DeMario Davis and AJ Klien also deserve a huge amount of credit for clogging up running lanes and in particular for Klein the fumble caused by the hit on Jason Witten was pivotal.

Even after going 2-0 in his first two starts for the Saints Teddy Bridgewater is still getting grief from certain sections of the Saints fanbase, I just dont get it?  What more does he need to do to get fans onside? He is playing mistake free football and has led the Saints to back to back wins against two play off teams from last year. If you would have offered me 3-1 after 4 games even with Brees I would have snapped your hand off.

So next week we are onto the first NFC South match up of the year against Tampa, lets see if we can keep this run going!

WHODAT!

James
